2006-2007 LLY / LBZ Duramax Exhaust Systems
In 2006 a catalytic converter was kept in the Duramax exhaust systems, but the flange style was changed on the outlet. It is installed in the front pipe which starts at the bottom of the firewall and ends in an overlapping flange. The systems listed on this page start from the overlapping flange after the converter and keep all of the emission equipment in place.
The truck chassis did not change significantly from 2001 through the current model LMM trucks. The LB7 exhaust is a popular swap into newer model trucks used in "Off Road" and "Competition Use" to eliminate the emissions equipment for the benefits of a freer flowing exhaust system.
These kits are built to fit a variety of cab configurations. On shorter wheel base models you may have some sections of pipe left over.

For the diesel owner who only wants the best, top of the line T304 stainless steel offers superior resistance to corrosion, is able to withstand high levels of heat, and can be polished to a mirror bright finish. The value-priced 409 grade stainless series is the same type of steel used in many original equipment exhaust systems. The performance is the same, but it will discolor over time. The Silverline diesel muffler is the key to the aggressive sound associated with these exhaust systems. With a free-flow design, the strategically placed louvers provide sound deadening for a more pleasant in-cab ride while still providing the powerful sound of the diesel engine during acceleration.
Diamond Eye Performance has developed a Turbo Direct exhaust pipe, also known as a down pipe, for the late 2004 to early 2007 GM Duramax LLY & LBZ engines. This is the pipe that connects directly to the turbo and runs down to the passenger side floor board. The factory pipe is made for extra clearance between the engine and the firewall. It is good for clearance, but bad for flow. The Diamond Eye pipe features CNC machined end forms for a precise fit, mandrel bent tubing for smoother flow, and is covered with special thermal resistant wrapping to help reduce your EGT's by up to 150 degrees.

We were curious to see what difference these actually made, so we did a before and after test. What we found was not a big difference in power, but a substantial difference in exhaust gas temperatures. The power increased by 11.3 HP and the torque was increased by 23.5 foot pounds. The real difference was in the 206 degree EGT reduction! Our recommendation would be to definitely consider this as a needed upgrade for high performance trucks and those that do a lot of heavy hauling. This should be done after or at the same time the rest of the exhaust is upgraded.
